Word about how the EPA may have suppressed a report skeptical about the CO2 warnings, etc. I'm so glad they changed from the way we all criticized the previous EPA runners.

And a 300 page amendment, at 3:09 in the morning, the morning that a vote will be occuring on a bill? Yeah, really classy, guys.
There are very people more bitter than someone who was a registered Democrat for over 20 years.

So...all of a sudden I am finding out that VP Cheney is in favor of gay marriage rights, and that it should be left up to the states to regulate. He came out with statements almost 5 years ago (in the article I have linked to), but somehow I missed them. I think I was still in my denial stage of that admin. But anyway...

It does make more sense than when I was wondering how he could have a gay daughter and then be against gay marriage rights. It turns out he wasn't. Like the title says, I have to take back a few of the things I said about him over the years.

I was driving from dropping The Boy off at school this morning when I heard on the news that Dr. Tiller had been shot and killed on Saturday.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090531/ap_o n_re_us/us_tiller_shooting
I had prayed for a long time that he would stop what he did. I was praying for a change of heart. I find it sad that someone shot him. I pray for his family in their time of loss. Many right-to-life groups have come out with statements condemning the act, as they should. Obviously, there are extremists who turn to violence, and that's not right.
I pray for his family, and for the doctors who continue to do what he did.

Clear and sweet is my soul
and clear and sweet is all that is not my soul
That's been bouncing around my head today for some reason.

Our local school board has elections tomorrow for a few positions. We got an email just now with a list of the candidates and their stated professions.
One candidate lists her occupation as "Prophetess".
The list makes a great joke set-up: A law professor, a NASA engineer and a Prophetess walk into a bar...
At least we have a diverse list of candidates from which to choose....

Okay, because I am a math nerd, I had a little fun. Maybe I'm procrastinating a little.
We all know our government, throughout our history, has had a problem with big numbers. Very few of them seem to realize how much a billion is. Forget them understanding a trillion. Certainly overall they have been on a spending spree with the latest two big spending bills. The government has bugged me for years, throwing around such large amounts. The overload the past few months is making my head spin.
It is 92.8 million miles to the sun. It is 238,857 miles (on average) to the moon.
There are 5,280 feet in a mile. A dollar bill is 6.14 inches long.
The cost of the first bailout bill in the fall was estimated at 700,000,000,000 dollars.
The cost of the second big bill is estimated at 789,000,000,000 dollars.
We all know that they will probably be overruns, because the government (no matter who is in charge) rarely gets the cost right the first time and so we'll just go with their estimates.
So, if you glued dollar bills perfectly together end-to-end, it would take 957,623,452,769 to reach the sun, and it would take 2,464,817,511 to reach the moon.
So, the initial estimated cost of the two bills would be enough dollars to reach from the earth to the sun and make it halfway back home. The dollars to pay for the two bills would reach from the earth to our moon 604 times,or for 302 round trips.
This is how I have chosen to procrastinate this evening.
